Syracuse virtual tour: walking tour to discover the most beautiful place of this city

The streets of Syracuse offer a variety of architectural styles ranging from Norman-Greek, Roman, Baroque, and Medieval styles. This island is a treasure trove of more than 2,500 years of history.

Ortygia: The center of Syracuse, is a tiny island only 1 km long and 600 m wide, which can be seen as such in a day. Syracuse was founded by the Greeks over 2,700 years ago and is one of the oldest and most influential cities in the Mediterranean. Syracuse was for a time the most powerful and richest Greek city in the Mediterranean.

In 2005, Syracuse and Ortygia were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, an award that is certainly deserved. The highlight of Ortygia is certainly the impressive Piazza Duomo. The cathedral dates from the 5th century BC. BC and was built around the ancient Temple of Athena.

It is practically impossible to get lost in Ortygia because after a few minutes’ walk you can either go to the dike or the bridges to return to Syracuse in either direction.

In the following beautiful VIRTUAL TOUR video are the must-see sights when visiting Syracuse.
