San Vito Lo Capo, top Sicily beach

Sicily DMC – San Vito Lo Capo: set on a long beach that recalls the distant Caribbean with its colors, San Vito Lo Capo, thanks to its mild climate, even in winter, is one of the most popular destinations in western Sicily. Its position, between Palermo and Trapani, allows it to be easily reached from the two airports in western area.

A typical fisher’s village, with low houses dotted with jasmine and bougainvillea, a Mediterranean atmosphere that immediately promises a lot of relaxation … The naturalistic beauties and the magic of places touched by myth are just some of the reasons that make a holiday in this corner of paradise essential.

We are a few kilometers from the suggestive natural pearl of the Zingaro Reserve, from the splendid Monte Cofano, from the legendary Erice and from the Doric temple of Segesta … but much more awaits you!

The heart of the town is Piazza Santuario which overlooks the sanctuary-fortress dedicated to San Vito martire, patron of the town. From here, via Savoia, it quickly reaches the sea, an irresistible attraction for everyone. Via Savoia, very popular especially in the evening, is a destination for shopping and relaxing walks, while in the beach clubs young people meet at sunset for sparkling Happy Hour. Musicians, street artists, stalls full of original artifacts enrich the long summer evenings.

A very characteristic corner of the village of San Vito Lo Capo is via Venza, a widening which is located right next to the main square and which in summer becomes the cultural lounge of the village thanks to one of the most loved events by the holidaymakers “Bougainvillea Books” .

Journalists and writers enliven the long summer evenings, in an absolutely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. But it is on the beautiful beach of San Vito Lo Capo that everyone meets every day to enjoy the sea in the hottest hours of the day. A long strip of fine sand, a sea with bright colors, shallow and safe waters even for the little ones, a jewel nestled between the majestic Monte Monaco and the rocky wall of the Egitarso plateau, to be envied, especially in spring, by the best Caribbean beaches.

In summer, if you do not want to go home for a lunch break, you can comfortably have a snack on the promenade where numerous restaurants and bars overlook. If you want to move around a bit, you can rent a bike and go to the lighthouse, one of the most suggestive places in the country. Its light beam guides the boats and every evening illuminates the whole bay A nice tour along the quay where fishermen dock their colorful boats will not be missed out on. Especially in the morning, at the port, you may be lucky enough to buy some freshly caught fish directly from them.

Not far from the port you can admire Torrazzo, one of the numerous defense towers that are located along the Sicilian coast that once served to protect the island from pirate attacks.

But on a holiday in Sicily you cannot miss the gustatory experience … its excellent cuisine brings together and pacifies all palates around its most famous dishes … the most delicious desserts … and local products and wines of excellent quality. The most anticipated events of the year are those dedicated to food: the Cous Cous Fest and Bagli, Olio e Mare.

The Cous Cous Fest takes place every year in late September. The event brings together the whole world around the typical dish of Arab origin, in the name of peace between peoples.

Bagli, Olio e Mare keeps the tradition of simple cooking of local farmers and fishermen alive and brings us with its perfumes to the beach of Baia Santa Margherita, a few minutes from Castelluzzo and Macari, two quiet hamlets of San Vito Lo Capo … and it is immediately a feast of flavors. Happy holiday!…
